Housing commencement notices — Summerhill

Permission for development at the former St. Josephs Convent, Portland Row, Dublin 1; a Protected Structure (RPS Ref:6838) and which is bounded by Portland Row, Summerhill, Bailey's Row, and adjoining Bailey's Court (Block B). The application is made concurrent to current applications under DCC Ref. 3666/14 at Bailey's Court and DCC Ref. 3726/14 at no. 67 Summerhill. The proposed residential development provides for 16 no. apartments in four buildings of the former convent (and former DIT education facility) (Blocks I, II, IV and V) and consists of, change of use from education to residential; internal alterations and works to existing floor space; upgrade and repair plumbing, electrical and heating services, repair and replace windows, gutters, drains roofs and plaster work, clean and make-good structures as required according to best conservation practice. At Block I (building bound by Bailey's Court, internal courtyard and Summerhill) it is proposed to provide 2 no. 3 bed apartments at ground level. At Block II (the former convent building on Portland Row) it is proposed to provide 5 no. apartments at ground floor level (3 no. 2 bed apartments (2 with winter gardens) and 2 no. 3 bed apartments (1 with winter garden)); closure of entrance no.1 to Portland Row with door retained in situ, new access door/corridor to internal courtyard; replacement of glazed roof of conservatory structure to courtyard; and consolidation of rooms and spaces. No development is proposed in Block III, the former Church on the corner of Bailey's Row and Portland Row. Block IV will comprise 8 no. apartments in the 4 storey building on to Bailey's Row (1 no. 2-bed and 7 no. 3-bed apartments) and demolition of existing external escape stair in the courtyard. Formerly altered windows (now serving as door access onto the stair) will revert to window opes.
