Uisce Eireann (formerly Irish Water) intends to apply to Cork City Council for a ten year planning permission for development at this site which consists of the construction of upgrade works to the existing water supply system between the Port of Cork 2000 Garden and the Marina Promenade, Cork City. The development will consist of the following: The installation of a new 400mm Ductile Iron trunk main between the port of Cork 2000 Garden and The Marina Promenade via a 1200mm internal diameter tunnelled pipe underneath the River Lee bed, including tunnel shafts at each side of the river, one tunnel shaft within the Port of Cork 2000 Garden and the second to the south of the Marina Promenade. The diversion of existing watermain and sewers in the Port of Cork 2000 Garden to facilitate the construction of a tunnel shaft. Interconnecting watermains in The Port of Cork 2000 Garden. Interconnecting watermains from the proposed southern tunnel shaft to the Marina Promenade via open cut. The installation of a scour chamber associated with the new watermain on lands to the south of The Marina Promenade with an outlet to Atlantic Pond. The installation of electrical cable ducts within the 1200mm internal diameter tunnelled pipe and with the tunnel shafts for the ESB. All related site works and ancillary development. A Natura Impact Statement accompanies this planning application. The Planning Application and Natura Impact Statement may be inspected or purchased at a fee not exceeding the reasonable cost of making a copy at the offices of the Planning Authority.
