Development Description
EirGrid PLC, with the consent and approval of the Electricity Supply Board (ESB), intends to apply for permission for works to uprate the existing Cashla - Dalton 110 kV overhead line (OHL). Within County Mayo, the proposed development will take place within the following townlands: DALGAN DEMESNE, POLLBAUN, CARROWBEG WEST, GORTEENS, SEEFIN, BROOKHILL, CARROWMORE, BALLYHANKEEN, RUSHBROOK EAST, BALLYCUSHEEN, SCARDAUN WEST, MILLBROOK, MILFORD DEMESNE, CURRAGHADOOEY, LISDUFF, RATHGRANAGHER (MILLER), DRUMMIN WEST, CARROWBEG EAST, RATHGRANAGHER (LINDSAY), CROSSBOYNE, KILBEG-MALONE, DAVROS, DERRY, CLARE, GREAGHANS, COOLROE, ROOS, LEEDAUN The Cashla - Dalton 110 kV OHL circuit runs through County Galway and County Mayo. It is 57.7 km in length and travels from Cashla 110 kV substation in Barrettspark in central County Galway and traverses northwest to the Dalton 110 kV substation (County Mayo). The OHL has a total of 271no. supporting structures. Within the functional area of Mayo County Council, there is 24.7 km of the existing OHL circuit, with 111no. structures. Within the functional area of Galway County Council there is 33.0 km, with 160no. structures. Separate planning applications will be lodged with Galway County Council. The proposed development within Co. Mayo will comprise: • the replacement (“restringing”) of the existing OHL circuit conductor wires with a new higher capacity conductor between structure no. 160 and Dalton 110 kV substation; • the replacement of angle masts in-situ at 6no. locations, with similar structures; • the strengthening of tower foundations at 2no. locations; • the strengthening of towers (i.e., member replacement) at 6no. locations; • the painting of towers at 7no. locations; • shear block remedial works of a tower at 1no. location; • the replacement of polesets at 83no. locations, with similar structures. The change in structures will result in standardised heights from 16 m to 23 m along the circuit. The majority of the height increases will be between 0.1 m and 2.0 m (at 70no. structures), with 12no. structure replacements resulting in no change in height. Structure no. 263 will increase in height by 7.0m; • the replacement of insulating and ancillary hardware at all structures from structure no. 161 to 271; • the replacement of earthwire between structure no. 261 and structure no. 271; • the replacement of stay wire / anchors and associated fittings at 7no. locations; • the replacement of crossarms at 7
