Development Description
This project proposes the transformation of an existing playing area into a fully accessible, year round natural play space that enhances outdoor recreation, biodiversity and community wellbeing. The redevelopment will create a landscape led environment where children and adults can play, explore, relax and learn in a safe and engaging setting. The design will retain and repurpose existing equipment that remains fit for use, integrating it into a new layout of natural mounds, slopes, and varied terrain. These features will encourage imaginative play, physical activity and sensory engagement while improving the visual and ecological quality of the site. A central element of the project is the introduction of sensory and interactive equipment suitable for all ages and abilities. These features will support inclusive play, offering opportunities for movement, discovery, quiet reflection and nature based learning. The space will be designed to stimulate curiosity and creativity while promoting environmental awareness. Environmental improvement and biodiversity enhancement are key priorities. The project will incorporate native planting, pollinator friendly habitats and natural materials to create a more sustainable and ecologically rich landscape. These improvements will strengthen local biodiversity and provide informal learning opportunities about nature and the environment. Importantly, the play space will be free and open to all, providing an accessible community resource that supports physical health, social connection, and outdoor engagement.
