Public-safe works description

The site is located within the Slane Castle Demesne Architectural Conservation Area. The proposal comprises the creation of a new whiskey distillery and visitor centre and associated development to be set within the existing two storey East Stableyard, west single storey Courtyard, the East, Middle and West Farmyards and the Gardener’s (Edie’s) Cottage and Gardens. The proposal includes the restoration and repair of existing buildings to sensitively adapt them to the new distillery and visitor centre uses. The proposal minimises internal and external alterations to the existing building fabric. Where new construction is required to supplement the existing structures, it has been carefully sited and designed with appropriate materials and scale to cause the least impact to the historic setting. The site for the development is located approximately 110m to the northwest of Slane Castle. This phase involves works to Shell and core finish in Block A, B(north), D(north), J and to completion in Block B (south), C, D (south), E, F, G, G-g, . Miscellaneous site works to include installation of new gates, gate piers, boundary treatments, car / coach / bicycle parking, internal path / roadways etc. Site development works include provision of a packaged waste treatment plant and percolation field for foul waste and decommissioning of septic tank at Castle. Surface water attenuation for the site will be provided by SUDS methods including swales to be located in the woodlands to the south of the Stableyard, Courtyard and Middle Farmyard. Water will be sourced from [3] sources including the River Boyne, through an on site borehole and collected rainwater (grey water). Re-circulated cooling water, and cleaned distillation process water, will be discharged back to the River Boyne. New, sensitively-designed inlet and outlet pipes will be constructed to the River Boyne. It is proposed to restore the derelict millpond, weir, millrace and sluice, and to create a new fish pass to accomm
