Works description

The proposed development involves the expansion of the existing ESB Belcamp 220 kV Substation to increase electricity transmission capacity and support the integration of renewable energy generation into the national grid. The works will include the construction of a new 220 kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) building and associated electrical infrastructure. The development will include lightning protection masts, underground cabling, drainage infrastructure, site access upgrades, hardstanding areas, perimeter security measures, and all associated ancillary works within an extension of the existing substation compound. Provisions will also be made for future expansion within the extended compound, including future transformers and a STATCOM system for voltage support. Access to the site will be via the existing entrance and internal access road from the R139 regional road.
